Ojai Valley Inn Ceremony
When Laura and Chris called me for availablity on their date, I could barely contain my excitement. You see, in 2010 I had the joy of meeting this amazing family, called the Spielman Family. Angie and Eric had hired me to photograph their engagement and wedding at historic Santa Margarita Ranch in San Luis Obispo County. Over the course of their wedding I got to know their family, and boy, what a WONDERFUL bunch!
Laura and Chris’ wedding weekend was one for the books, and definitely didn’t disappoint their family and friends from across the country. Their day began with the tradition of the Ketubah signing. For those who are unfamiliar, it’s a Jewish tradition, and it’s one of my favorite aspects of this culture’s wedding ceremonies. (SO much that we had a Ketubah signing at our wedding, and we aren’t even Jewish!) Part of what drew me into becoming a wedding photographer was the culture of weddings. Weddings tie people together, regardless of nationality, sex or religion. They are a symbol of unity, that is recognized across the world, in various ways. There’s no right or wrong way to wed, but it’s a commitment and union that is acknowledged across the globe through symbolism.
Back to the story … The connection and gratitude of love that Chris and Laura share was so evident throughout the day. The love of their families, abundant. The joy of ALL of their kids, exceptional. This family is the type of family I strive to have when I “grow up.” You can see the love, feel the warmth and witness the connection they have with each other. I remember Chris’ vows and committing to being the kind of step father he had as a young boy, and how grateful he was for the opportunity to give that love back to Laura’s kids. What a beautiful gift of love!
